For any country the water is at the core of human interdependence as it crosses political boundaries in the form of rivers, lakes and underground streams. Countries enact laws for water management at the national level, while transnational legal framework is deficient. This makes the management of interdependence a problem very complex and intractable, resulting in disputes and conflicts on the occasion water to many both local and transnational level. As states continue to rely on competing claims, rising and war conflicts, which is true not only in modern history, but even millenniums back. It is no coincidence that as the years go by the inequality in the distribution of water expands globally, and this element is indicative of how likely the scenario of future wars cause claiming aquifers. In this project we try to document an inventory of belligerent conflict over water in the world throughout history and the main causes that led to them.
