Επισκοπούνται τα αστικά συστήματα υγρών αποβλήτων και ομβρίων στην αρχαία Ελλάδα, με βάση τα αποτελέσματα αρχαιολογικών ερευνών του 20ου αιώνα. Δίνεται έμφαση στην κατασκευή, λειτουργία και διαχείριση των συστημάτων υγρών αποβλήτων και ομβρίων στο Μινωικό πολιτισμό (2η χιλιετία π.Χ.). Τα επιτεύγματα αυτής της περιόδου αναφορικά με τις λειτουργικές και υγιεινολογικές απαιτήσεις των ανακτόρων και των πόλεων ήταν τόσο προχωρημένα, ώστε να μπορούν να συγκριθούν με τα σύγχρονα αστικά υδατικά συστήματα, τα οποία αναπτύχθηκαν στην Ευρώπη και τη Βόρεια Αμερική το δεύτερο μισό του 19ου αιώνα μ.Χ. Οι προχωρημένες Μινωικές τεχνολογίες διαδόθηκαν σε όλες τις περιοχές της Ελλάδας σε επόμενα στάδια του ελληνικού πολιτισμού, στη Μυκηναϊκή, την Αρχαϊκή, την Κλασική και την Ελληνιστική περίοδο.
